Habbo Avatars is a collection of 11,600 unique, collectible, pixelated avatars. These collectible avatars are non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, and they exist on the Ethereum blockchain as ERC-721 tokens.
Together with Offsetra, Sulake has developed a framework to make the upcoming launch of the NFT collection a positive contribution to the planet.
Offsetra will help Sulake to quantify and offset twice the amount of carbon emissions associated with the launch of the collection. In order to ensure this project is truly carbon negative, Sulake will be offsetting 500kg of CO2 per NFT sold. This means that more carbon dioxide will be offset from the atmosphere than is associated with the project's share of emissions from the operations of the underlying Ethereum blockchain network.
"Over the past two decades, Habbo has defined what it means to be a community-centred digital trading game, through listening to the community and environment around them. As Habbo explores the new opportunities NFT trading and the blockchain present, we cannot ignore the associated increase in energy consumption and the ecological impact that will have. By listening to our planet and its residents, we want to set the example of exploring new innovative technologies while caring for our environment." – Valtteri Karu, CEO of Sulake
Habbo Avatars will be the first NFT drop by Sulake, but the studio sees it as a first step towards a broader adoption of NFTs and blockchain technology in Habbo. Check the Habbo Avatars website for the roadmap and further information about the project.
